It is evident that blockchain technology is fast evolving, and its adoption is rising in Africa. But there’s a challenge: many people across the continent still have no comprehensive education nor the savviness to know how blockchain and the concept of cryptos work and how beneficial they are for their lives.

Now Cape Town-based startup Web3 Sanctuary is creating an edtech platform that strives to fill this knowledge gap, by training the next generation of Web3 builders. It connects them with blockchain companies for prospective career opportunities in a bid to grow Africa’s blockchain potential.

Devon Krantz, the founder and CEO of Web3 Sanctuary acknowledges that there is much to be done for every African to comprehend blockchain concepts and how they can be used to build solutions around the daily challenges they face in life.

Blockchain Courses for Tech Students

“We strive to be the go-to edtech solution when it comes to training on Web3, Solidity and blockchain,” Krantz, who has been in the industry since 2016, tells NODO News in Cape Town ahead of the CV VC Web3 summit. “Because there is massive potential in the Web3 and blockchain education ecosystem in Africa; more so at the transition from Web2 to Web3.”

It is a platform that offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip its tech students with the knowledge, skills, and connections needed to succeed in the current fast evolving Web3 ecosystem.

The platform, which has thus far been involved in the training of roughly 50,000 people since its inception, similarly works with experienced trainers, and community support groupings through its Discord channel.

Web3 Sanctuary currently has two key courses in its curriculum. These are introduction to blockchain and Web3, and a Solidity Developer Course, for those who want a deeper understanding of how to build blockchain projects.

There are, however, prospects for future incorporation of other courses such as advanced Solidity development, upgradable and smart contracts and proxies, gas optimization and assembly 101, zero knowledge cryptography, tokenomics 1 and 2, and blockchain security and tooling.

“The courses generally take three months. But it is the first month that is often quite overwhelming. The subsequent two months are not all that demanding since the learner already has some idea of what they are learning about,” says Krantz, who is also the board chair of Linum Labs, a blockchain software development studio, which hosts a global team of tech entrepreneurs, and software engineers.

At the moment the platform is partnering with universities in its edtech blockchain awareness agenda as well as individual developers who it trains, and plans to take spread its wings across Africa.

“We will expand to Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya,” she says, adding that the goal is to have footprints in 10 African countries.
