The artificial intelligence (AI) powered MazzumaGPT, which went live on June 15 is the first of its kind in Africa. It promises to significantly revolutionize the coding and decentralized app (dApp) development experience in the Web3 ecosystem across the globe.

Run through the blockchain-driven mobile payment platform Mazzuma, the MazzumaGPT is an AI tool that has been fine-tuned on audited and annotated smart contract code.

Nii Osae, the co-founder and director of software engineering at Mazzuma, based in Ghana, tells NODO News that MazzumaGPT is able to generate more than one million unique code samples in Web3 languages such as Solidity and Plutus.

“We have partnered with industry pioneers such as NVIDIA AI, Cardano Foundation, and EMURGO to develop MazzumaGPT to serve the entire Web3 community, enabling millions of developers worldwide to leverage AI in building the next-generation Web3 protocols,” Osae says.

How it Works

Its capability enables developers and product managers to go from idea to code in less than a minute. Essentially, novice developers only need to sign up and start coding right away, as it does the complex coding automatically, in what is called low-code programming. The developer only needs to add minor adjustments to make it run flawlessly.

Osae explains: “We realized that there was another emerging technology called generative AI which allowed for the use of large language models. So we figured why can’t we just merge these two technologies and find a way to create a generic AI technology that allows developers to create smart contracts in Plutus. MazzumaGPT allows developers to create smart contracts using the native AI in their native languages such as Plutus or Solidity.”

“A catch is that with MazzumaGPT, we have already embedded a referral program, whereby for every single person you refer, and who signs up to Mazzuma, you get three free prompts on your sign-up,” Osae says. “So first, you sign up and get five free prompts on your account. And then if you refer somebody and that person successfully activates an account and uses it, you get three free points.”

The Problem with Legacy Programming Languages

The team behind the tool realized that there was a steep learning gap in programming languages, explaining that Haskell, which is required to write code in Plutus is a difficult technical programming language to learn. Its chains require quite a significant degree of technical expertise to get a project up and running.

For instance, Osae explains, just to launch your own native token, you need to synchronize a whole node, which is more than 100 gigabytes of data, a tedious task for beginner developers. One has to first be able to get into the platform then creating their own smart contract becomes another challenge as they have to first learn Haskell, then Plutus, which essentially is an abstraction of Haskell.

“And these programming languages take quite a long time to learn. If you study the Plutus pioneer program, you’ll notice that it takes more than 18 weeks of training. And most developers don’t even have the time to dedicate to learning one programming language,” he says. “But with MazzumaGPT, a developer doesn’t have to know all the syntaxes and libraries in Plutus or Haskell. They can just use the bot and within between five and 30 minutes, get up and going with building a smart contract in Plutus.”

With the increase in the number of decentralized applications running on Cardano, the blockchain protocol is growing steadily and as MazzumaGPT gains popularity, the number of projects and decentralized applications running on the Cardano blockchain is set to increase.

A Whole New World for Blockchain Developers

“This, in turn, means lots of opportunities for developers in that for those who would want to get into tech and Web3 or to learn more about Cardano or build upon the decentralized blockchain infrastructure, they can leverage it,” Osae says. MazzumaGPT, he says, is Africa’s most advanced AI-powered smart contract code generator for Web3 protocols that is able to come up with code with state-of-the-art levels of functional correctness and accuracy.

Osae adds: “For instance, we have reduced the costs for using MazzumaGPT to the bare minimum. With just $1.99, you can generate a fully functional smart contract and deploy it on your test net or your main net. Basically, people can finally have their ideas and their prototype and test and deploy all their projects seamlessly.”

The soft target is now to get 100,000 developers using MazzumaGPT by the end of 2023.
